Internet Consultancy and Web DevelopmentI have been working with the Internet for ten years, researching all aspects, from web design, tools and standards to promotion through search engines, advertising and e-mail. I have designed and built numerous web sites including a complex e- commerce site, several online directories, customer registration forms and questionnaires. These are some of the main projects I have worked on over the past few years: The National TrustActing as the Trust's Internet Consultant, I co-managed the organization's web site for three years until an in-house team took over at the start of 2003. It involved overseeing a total redesign and relaunch of the site; drawing up a new contract with the company managing the servers; co- ordinating the addition of several sub-sites, a search engine, a discussion forum and web stats reporting; developing new functionality, such as a user-access content publishing system, and searchable directories of events, vacancies and several other collections of data. OSoLiSThis is my own company, for which I developed an entire e-commerce system specifically for selling licenses for try-before-you-buy software. The site offers all the usual 'e-shopping' experience for the customer, interfacing with Verisign and PayPal payment authorization systems. Authors can manage their own products, setting pricing and discounts. The system also maintains a full accounting record for the company. Image SourcesPartnering with Michael Brown, one of the most experienced business consultants in the picture library industry, I developed this international directory of picture suppliers, a self-managed marketing and networking directory for the industry. Picturehouse MarketingI developed a web site for picturehouse networking events, which uses a simple text database to serve up event details in a way that is quickly and easily maintained; there is also an online reservation facility. Look and LearnI am currently developing a web site that will carry images and pages from classic British children's magazines, such as Look and Learn, Treasure, Ranger and The Bible Story. The search engine employed is a highly customized version of ImageFolio. HTF / Lodestar TechnologiesI developed for HTF (the Hospitality Training Foundation) a web interface to an NVQ administration system developed by Lodestar Technologies. The web system allows staff and colleges to submit registrations and progress data on students via a web browser. Bookmark BuddyThis is a highly-regarded Windows program I developed for managing Internet bookmarks. It uses an innovative and intuitive interface and offers a wealth of functionality. I also developed the promotional and support web site, which incorporates a dynamic FAQ and search engine. GoodMatchThis is a sophisticated online matching and dating system. Each users completes two personality profiles, one for him/herself, and one for their 'ideal' partner. The system looks for compatibility both ways in order to create a list of possible matchesm, who can then correspond with each other without revealing their true identity or contact details. The ReformistThis is in its infancy, but demonstrates the use of an online bulletin board as a discussion forum. ChargesMost work is carried out on a daily rate basis. A fixed cost may be agreed where the task can be specified to the satisfaction of both parties. Rates are individually negotiated, but start from UK£320 per day plus expenses, plus VAT (applicable within the European Union). Further information
